Heatwave in Queensland
Temperatures remain 10 to 12 degrees above average across much of southeast Queensland but a cool change is due over the weekend.
Brisbane hit 36degC, short of its September record of 38.3degC, yesterday although temperatures were due to lower in the afternoon, a Bureau of Meteorology forecaster said.
The heatwave has melted records this week.
Birdsville recorded the state’s hottest ever September day at 42.8degC on Wednesday. As a warm air mass moved towards the coast on Thursday, records fell at 12 locations between Warwick, Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and Logan. — AAP
