Tourists survive crash
Kaikoura: Tourists in a van that plunged 8m into a dry riverbed are said to be lucky to be alive.
Stuff has reported that a van went off a bridge on the Inland Kaikoura Rd about 9.45am yesterday.
Kaikoura Fire Brigade chief fire officer Ian Walker told Stuff a van ‘‘carrying six tourists went through the bridge rails and fell approximately 8m to the riverbed’’.
Two people were admitted to hospital with moderate injuries after the crash, while the rest of the passengers remained relatively unscathed.
‘‘They’re just very, very lucky people,’’ Mr Walker said.
