Otago Daily Times - - GENERAL -

OTAGO Daily Times subeditor Janice Murphy has been named the newspaper’s 2017 Valpy Rosebowl Trophy winner.

Mrs Murphy (63), who grew up in Dunedin, joined the ODT in 1994.

She is a former columnist and has filled a variety of positions in the Dunedin newsroom.

The award, for editorial excellence, is presented annually on the anniversary of the November 15, 1861, publication date of the first issue of the ODT, New Zealand’s oldest daily newspaper.

The award is named for Judge W.H. Valpy, one of the founders in 1851 of the weekly Otago Witness, which later amalgamated with the ODT.
