Dis­charged af­ter tak­ing ve­hi­cle while drunk

A QUEEN­STOWN travel agent who un­law­fully took an­other per­son’s ve­hi­cle to get home af­ter a night out drink­ing has been granted a dis­charge with­out con­vic­tion.

Olivia Alice Ourabi (22), a Bri­tish na­tional liv­ing in the re­sort on a work visa, ap­peared be­fore Judge Far­nan in the Queen­stown District Court yes­ter­day.

She ad­mit­ted a charge of un­law­fully tak­ing a ve­hi­cle, the prop­erty of Richard Ship­ley, in the re­sort on Au­gust 19.

Ourabi and a friend were drunk when they de­cided to take the car home. Ourabi had dif­fi­culty re­vers­ing the ve­hi­cle, so her friend, who has also been charged with the same of­fence, took over the wheel.

The ve­hi­cle was dam­aged dur­ing the in­ci­dent.

When they woke up later that day, the pair re­alised they must have taken the ve­hi­cle, but claimed to have no mem­ory of do­ing so.

Judge Far­nan or­dered Ourabi to pay $550 repa­ra­tion to Mr Ship­ley.
