Discharged after taking vehicle while drunk
A QUEENSTOWN travel agent who unlawfully took another person’s vehicle to get home after a night out drinking has been granted a discharge without conviction.
Olivia Alice Ourabi (22), a British national living in the resort on a work visa, appeared before Judge Farnan in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.
She admitted a charge of unlawfully taking a vehicle, the property of Richard Shipley, in the resort on August 19.
Ourabi and a friend were drunk when they decided to take the car home. Ourabi had difficulty reversing the vehicle, so her friend, who has also been charged with the same offence, took over the wheel.
The vehicle was damaged during the incident.
When they woke up later that day, the pair realised they must have taken the vehicle, but claimed to have no memory of doing so.
Judge Farnan ordered Ourabi to pay $550 reparation to Mr Shipley.
