Biden leads by 14 percentage points

FORMER vicepresid­ent Joe Biden’s national lead against President Donald Trump jumped to a nearly twotoone margin after their chaotic presidenti­al debate on September 29, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released yesterday.

The poll was conducted from September 30 to October 1, two days after the disorderly and caustic debate. The poll was completed just before the announceme­nt that Trump had tested positive for Covid19.

Biden now holds a 14percenta­gepoint lead against the president, 53% of registered voters backing the Democratic nominee and 39% supporting Trump. The poll shows a sixpoint jump for

Biden from a September 20 NBC/WSJ poll. His biggest lead in the poll previously was 11 points in July.

The biggest declines for Trump were among seniors and suburban women, who are now backing Biden 62%35% and 58%33%, respective­ly.

Fortynine percent of voters said Biden did a better job in the debate, compared with 24% who said Trump performed better.

Fifty percent preferred that the Senate waited to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat until after the election, while 38% wanted it filled immediatel­y. — USA Today
