Bright future lies ahead for Invercargill Airport
WITH a possible bubble happening in Australia before Christmas, it is important that the ground work starts as soon as possible with Invercargill Airport.
At a recent meeting, our Prime Minister said a Labour government would review tourism for the southern part of New Zealand. Grant Robertson also had the following comments to make: Dunedin and Invercargill need to step up to the plate; Queenstown could not cope with three million visitors and it now wants six million; the country needs to save Milford Sound.
I have formed a friends of Invercargill Airport (ginger group) to promote our airport. All these people are local movers and shakers. This group has been recently in limbo, because of the borders being closed and Covid19.
With the governments now talking about a transtasman bubble, now is the time to take urgent action.
My group had an excellent response from Bobbi Brown and Steve Canney from Great South.
Nigel Finnerty, our airport manager, is working hard to promote our airport. Other than a couple of city councillors, Mark Patterson is the only politician to get behind our group.
I would like to ask Penny Simmonds and Dr Liz Craig where they stand on this issue.
It is not if, but when, there will be flights travelling from our airport to Australia.
