Dunnett key as Valley starts off with win

A bitter northeaste­rly marred the opening of the North Otago senior club season, played on artificial strips.

A bighitting innings from former North Canterbury batsman Shannon Dunnett guided Valley to a sixwicket win over Oamaru in the twenty20 competitio­n.

Dunnett was unbeaten on 82 off 52 balls, including eight fours and five sixes. He had support from Lachie Kingan (35).

Batting first, Oamaru struggled through to 125 for six in its 20 overs with Mitchell Walker (31) topscoring.

Bowling for Valley, Taine Stirling took two for 27 and Rauva

Hattingh three for 30.

Union chased down Albion’s innings of 63 all out with nine wickets in hand.

Batting for Albion, Tom Squire (24) and Sam Keno (14) were the only players to make an impact.

Martin took three for 10 for Union while Jack Cameron finished with three wickets.
