Cycling: Briton Tao Geoghegan Hart won the Giro d’Italia after beating Maglia Rosa holder Jai Hindley in the finalstage time trial from Cernusco sul Naviglio to Milan yesterday as IneosGrenadiers turned around a dismal season in spectacular fashion.

The 25yearold started the day 0.86sec behind Hindley but he beat the Australian to win the race by 39sec and give IneosGrenadiers its second Giro title after Chris Froome’s 2018 triumph. Dutchman Wilco Kelderman, Hindley’s teammate at Sunweb, took third place overall, 1min 29sec off the pace .

‘‘It’s incredible. It was impossible for me to even think about winning the Giro when we started in Sicily,’’ Geoghegan Hart, who was only his team’s plan B, said. — Reuters
