Suarez another Covid case

-

LONDON: Star Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has tested positive for Covid19, ruling him out of a World Cup qualifier and almost certainly Atletico Madrid’s La Liga clash against his former club Barcelona on the weekend.

Suarez, goalkeeper Rodrigo Munoz and a staff member will miss Uruguay’s home match against Brazil today, the Uruguayan Football Association said.

‘‘All three mentioned are in good healthy state and have already implemented the measures needed for the case,’’ the Uruguayan FA said.

Other members of the squad had all tested negative.

Suarez is the latest player to test positive for the virus during an international break, after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah was infected while on duty with Egypt and went into selfisolation.

Egypt yesterday confirmed Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is also now isolating after he tested positive while on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Tottenham defender Matt Doherty and Stoke winger James McClean have been isolated from the rest of the Ireland squad after they tested positive while on Nations League action in Wales. — Reuters
