Warning on court interruption

-

An unusual incident occurred at the Wellington Supreme Court at the conclusion of a case in which a young man was charged with cattle stealing (says a Wellington exchange). When the jury returned a verdict of not guilty an emphatic “hear, hear” came from the body of the court. “Arrest that man,” ordered the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout. But the police were unable to locate the owner of the offending voice. His Honor remarked that if the offender had been identified he would have been sent to gaol. — ODT, 19.11.1920.
