A helping hand is being offered to South Auckland women who want to further their education or who show leadership. The South Auckland Zonta Club is offering a $5000 study award to women aged 25 to 45 to help fund tertiary education. The $1500 Young Women in Public Affairs Award is open to young secondary students who have shown leadership skills and a commitment to helping others. Zonta is an international organisation that works to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. The club was established in 1977 and continues to serve women in the local community and overseas. It currently has 45 members in the club, 3 of whom are foundation members and there are currently approximately 800 Zontians in 28 individual clubs throughout New Zealand. The scholarships were established to recognise the importance of education and leadership for women and are offered in partnership with the Chenery Trust. Applications close on August 5.
