FROM THE EDITOR

Papakura Courier - - FRONT PAGE -

Kia ora koutou,

As you’ll read on page 8, Auckland Council have announced an overhaul of how libraries operate. There’s no better place to look than our What’s On pages if you want to see the vital service run by our local libraries. As you scroll through the listings, you’ll see ukelele classes, computer lessons, homework clubs, book and craft groups and the list goes on. But on a personal level, what I’ve come to appreciate is the fact the library is a safe, warm and fun place to bring my daughter. Along with the regularly refreshed range of books, there’s puzzles, cuddly toys and child-sized furniture. However libraries are so much more than just a great service. It’s the people who staff them, creating a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of community, while answering a plethora of important queries. That’s why it’s so sad many staff are losing their jobs, as it means we are losing something too. Nga mihi nui, Justin
