Kia ora koutou, With the general election looming, one of the issues not getting as much attention, is whether cannabis should be decriminalised or made available for medicinal use.
Labour’s Jacinda Ardern has been quite upfront about her intention to see marijuana made available for medicinal purposes, whereas National’s Bill English has been less forthright about whether his Government would change our laws around cannabis.
Family First’s Bob McCoskrie has written an interesting column on the matter, which you can read on page 5, detailing his opposition to any form of decriminalisation.
However, regardless of which side of the argument you’re on, I suspect this is a debate set to take centre stage over the next few years, as we grapple with alternate forms of pain relief as well as reflect on the terrible results from the proliferation of synthetic weed in our communities.
