An elab­o­rate at­tempt to smug­gle huge amounts of drugs into New Zealand has landed two Ja­panese men in jail. The pair tried to im­port a large haul of ephedrine in­side wooden ta­bles, alu­minum shelves, plas­tic cylin­ders and fit­ness equip­ment such as skip­ping ropes. Kazuki Keino, 49, be­lieved to be the ring-leader, faces nine years and four months in prison on five im­por­ta­tion charges. Ac­com­plice Ken­taro Hara, 42, was jailed for 25 months for at­tempted pos­ses­sion for sup­ply of a class B drug. The pair were sen­tenced at Manukau Dis­trict Court on Fri­day.
