Kei te pe¯hea koutou? As was largely expected, Saturday night’s election didn’t deliver a clear indication on who will form the next Government. However congratulations must go to our three members of Parliament who held onto their respective seats, all with healthy margins (see page 3). After such a torrid election battle everyone involved must be feeling quite relieved the campaigning is over. But the backroom battles have just begun and so we probably won’t know who our next Prime Minister is until after October 7 when the special votes are all counted. If you’re a bit over politics there’s a fascinating story on page 4 about the rise of illegal employment contracts and there’s also a touching story on page 6 about Age Concern’s visiting service for sick elderly folk. Organisations like the CAB and Age Concern do such amazing and often unseen work in our community. I suspect if groups like this didn’t exist, many in our region would face far more hardship, so do take the time to read about their vital work.
