Pa­pakura Cro­quet Club holds its cen­te­nary cel­e­bra­tion this Satur­day, Novem­ber 11. Guests are in­vited for af­ter­noon tea at El­iz­a­beth Camp­bell Hall at 2pm and play a game an hour ear­lier. A cen­ten­nial tro­phy will be un­veiled to com­mem­o­rate the spe­cial birth­day, fol­low­ing the cut­ting of a cake. Pres­i­dent of Cro­quet NZ An­nie Henry, MP Ju­dith Collins, coun­cil­lor Daniel New­man, Pa­pakura Lo­cal Board chair Brent Catch­pole, as well as four de­scen­dants of char­ter mem­bers are at­tend­ing. A book­let de­tail­ing the club’s his­tory, which Pa­paku­raMu­seum cu­ra­tor Dr Michelle Smith and re­searcher Kara Ooster­man spent six months on, is show­cased. The club held its in­au­gu­ral meet­ing on Novem­ber 8, 1917, in Old Wairoa Road, mov­ing to new premises on Chapel Street in 1937 where it has been since.
