Hap­pen­ing this week­end: Pasi­fika Fes­ti­val

Twenty-five years of Pasi­fika means even greater cause for cel­e­bra­tion.

Two days (Satur­day 25 and Sun­day 26 March), 220 per­for­mance groups and 11 dif­fer­ent vil­lages bring myr­iad Pa­cific groups to­gether in the South Pa­cific’s largest city: Auck­land. Mark­ing 25 years of the Pasi­fika Fes­ti­val, 2017’s cel­e­bra­tions will be ex­tra-spe­cial. To name just a few of the events that will be mak­ing waves dur­ing the week­end, check out the Aotearoa Vil­lage for loop­ing, rap­ping and singing, the Hawaii Vil­lage for hula danc­ing and a Hawai­ian fash­ion show, the Tahiti Vil­lage for a heck of a lot of danc­ing or the Niue Vil­lage for lalaga koto kau­taha (bas­ket weav­ing), he niu (co­conut husk­ing) and volu niu (co­conut scrap­ing).
