Grafton’s Jehan Casinader, reporter for TV1 current affairs show Sunday, on his usual weekend
Pretty city Friday, 6pm I’ll leave TVNZ and walk to my flat. Dusk is my favourite time of day; there’s something beautiful about the city as it morphs into a different beast at night. I’ll have a few mates over for a rum and a yarn about our hopes and fears.
Snug spot Saturday, 9am Many cafes are in chaos on Saturdays, but there’s always a cosy, quiet spot at Fort Greene. Andrea and Liam are the most charming, hard-working cafe owners I’ve met. The food is superb, and the ingredients are made on-site. St Kevins Arcade, 183 Karangahape Rd
Long reads Saturday, 2pm I often save up articles and clips to digest on the weekend, ranging from New Yorker essays to music videos. I’ll catch up on Kim Hill’s RNZ interviews too. She’s a force of nature.
Back to the Arcade Saturday, 7pm I spend a lot of time in St Kevins Arcade. It’s easy to disappear into the darkness at The Wine Cellar, after which I’ll pop across to Acho’s for Japanese tapas, or a beautiful Lebanese meal at Gemmayze St. 183 Karangahape Rd
Fresh air Sunday, 3pm I often feel trapped in the CBD but a quick run in the Auckland Domain, followed by a few minutes lying in the grass staring at the clouds, helps put everything in perspective. Parnell
Downtime Sunday, 8pm I have a strict routine on Sunday nights. I get to bed early, light a candle and pour a cup of peppermint tea. After downloading some new tunes, I plan the week; I’m recharged.
