Win a game
Winner of the Spiel des Jahres (game of the year), Codenames is a fun and easy-to-play word game for small and large groups. Word cards (codenames) are laid out and only the spy master for each team knows which of these identify their team’s ‘agents’. Each turn, the spy master gives a one-word clue that relates to multiple words on the board, and his/her team tries to guess which words the spy master is referring to. The first team to uncover all their agents wins. Codenames is suitable for players aged 10 and above.
ISLE OF SKYE
The top honour for the Kennerspiel des Jahres (connoisseurs' game of the year), went to Isle of Skye – From Chieftain to King. Everyone takes the role of a chief. Each turn, players collect income, take three tiles (one of which is discarded), and buy tiles from other players. The tiles depict roads, lakes, mountains etc., which are used to create kingdoms. Players score points at the end of each turn. The player with the most points wins. Isle of Skye can be played with 2-5 players, aged eight and above.
My First Stone Age
My First Stone Age won this year’s Kinderspiel des Jahres (children’s game of the year). Each turn, players turn over a tile which reveals their next move. As soon as a player visits the town centre, the tiles are turned back face down. Over the course of the game, players who can remember what each tile is, will have an advantage. Players collect resources to build huts, and the first player to build three huts wins. The game is suitable for children aged five and above.
