There’s been a lot of talk around town about the paper’s decision to close the scoreboard for sports results. I understand the scoreboard has been a part of the paper for a long time and is well read. However we’ve moved to a new production system, nationally, that has forced a number of changes and we no longer have the capability or reporter resources to compile a scoreboard. Most clubs are now using Facebook and other online platforms to share results and draws, which makes sense. This all does not mean the end of sport in your local paper. In fact it is the opposite. We’re keen to hear what story ideas you might have from your sport, whether it is a profile on a particular player/athlete or an up-coming tournament or event. All of these make great stories and photos that we’re happy to report on for the community. It’s an opportunity I hope people will take advantage of and it’s a way for clubs to get much more out of their local paper.
