Olympic spirit reaches Tauhei

- KATRINA TANIRAU

Kiwi Olympic bronze medallists Tom Walsh and Eliza McCartney have a secret weapon when it’s comes to fuelling themselves.

It’s called white liquid gold or milk and when combined with a few berries, some honey and a bit of yogurt - it’s renamed a power smoothie.

Fonterra has been working with some Kiwi athletes who went to the Rio Olympics through an educational campaign Anchor Go Strong.

Jo Burton from Fonterra Morrinsville went to Tauhei Combined School recently to run an amazing race with activities including a chopstick challenge and a team relay.

Students watched short videos of McCartney and Walsh, who spoke of the importance of fuelling themselves with the right things.

They also had to find something that resembled a silver fern to place on their shirts and sing the National Anthem.

After completing the amazing race, they worked together to make smoothies.

Fonterra has been sponsoring the New Zealand Olympic team and educating kiwis about the importance of good nutrition and health for training to help achieve their goals, Burton said.

‘‘We sponsored Eliza McCartney and Tom Walsh and we are so proud of their medal winning achievements.’’
