Piako Post - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

Good on councillor Paul Cronin for petitioning NZ Transport Authority to address three problematic intersections with State Highway 26 within Morrinsville ( Piako Post, August 23).

It would be much better, though, if NZTA were to take SH 26 right out of the town.

It would require only a couple of kilometres of new road to bypass the town, from the east just before the rail overbridge (between Murray Rd and Roache Rd), to the end (slightly re-aligned) of Kuranui Rd at Studholme St South.

Not only those three intersections in town, but also the oblique rail crossing at the tricky Piako Rd junction (the scene of a recent fatality) would be carrying a greatly reduced volume of traffic, as Kuranui Rd would become the new highway.
