A woman is facing charges after a pre-dawn raid on a home led to the recovery of a high-calibre gun.
Police, including the Armed Offenders Squad, executed a search warrant at a home in Hamilton St in Te Aroha around 5.45am on Monday. Morrinsville Acting Sergeant Will Hamilton said police arrested a 23-year-old woman. She was taken into custody and given police bail to reappear in the Morrinsville District Court on charges relating to other matters. Two other men at the property were assisting police with inquiries.
‘‘We are yet to establish the final charges anyone will face, including the two other occupants.’’
A small amount of cannabis and drug paraphernalia were also found in the search, Hamilton said. Police also recovered a highcalibre firearm. No one at the property held a firearm’s licence, he said.
‘‘Police will take a zero tolerance and cautious approach to any information regarding firearms in the hands of young people. In the hands of the wrong people firearms have the potential to do a lot of harm.’’
Hamilton urged anyone who may have information about illegal activity, including illegal possession of firearms, to contact police.
