Members of the Morrinsville Country Music Spectacular band agree that it is an absolute pleasure to support the awesome talent that comes together to perform at the Morrinsville Country Music Spectacular show.

What makes this year’s event, which takes place this Saturday September 16, even more significant is the fact that this year marks 40 years since it began as a Christmas show and evolved into what it is today.

Band leader Renny Hantler first appeared as a rhythm guitarist for the Morrinsville Spectacular in 1992.

This will be Renny’s eighth year in a row as musical director for the Spectacular.

Since the early 1970s Renny has worked as a musical director, lead singer and rhythm guitarist in a number of bands spanning the North and South Islands of New Zealand, playing at clubs and concert venues as well as backing many Country Music Awards including the NZ Gold Guitar Awards in Gore.

Renny is a current committee member of the Morrinsville Country Music Club and is actively involved in the clubs’ activities; helping out with the band, harmony vocals and chord chart writing.

Lead guitarist Daniel Cosgrove has been a part of the Morrinsville Spectacular band for the past five years.

‘‘Previous to this I grew up performing at the Morrinsville CMC with the guidance of many people I have a great deal of respect for,’’ he said.

This will be Jeremy Hantler’s ninth year playing drums for the Morrinsville Spectacular, and his 22nd year of being a member of the Morrinsville Country Music Club.

He is a passionate music educator for young people, and musician and who performs regularly with jazz, afrobeat, folk, improv, and country bands. Jeremy has travelled every year from Wellington, Auckland, Hamilton, and now Tauranga to be a part of the magical weekend with a great band, inspiring guest artists and flawless Morrinsville hospitality.

Bass player Tony Crichton was invited into the Morrinsville Spectacular band six years ago, through his involvement with the Proam Country Music Awards band.

He has since had the great pleasure of supporting the awesome talent that the Morrinsville Spectacular Show has put on.
