The youth-fo­cused, fam­ily-friendly, Whanau Games Day event is set to take place this Satur­day Oc­to­ber 14 at the Mor­rinsville Col­lege grounds.

Or­gan­is­ers want to see as many mem­bers of the com­mu­nity there as pos­si­ble to join in the fun.

The event has been or­gan­ised by He Herenga Tan­gata, a col­lab­o­ra­tive group of lo­cal or­gan­i­sa­tions in­clud­ing so­cial ser­vice agen­cies, com­mu­nity groups and the po­lice.

Sim­i­lar to the old ‘ top-town’ style events, the day will in­clude a range of com­pet­i­tive ac­tiv­i­ties with teams earn­ing points to claim the top prize.

Prizes in­clude team trips to Auck- land’s Rain­bows End, Ro­torua’s Mo­tion En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre, fam­ily movie passes, as well as in­di­vid­ual spot prizes and much, much more.

The event is free to at­tend sp get along and show your sup­port.

Lunch will be par­tic­i­pants.

Six­teens teams will be tak­ing part and ac­tiv­i­ties will vary and are suit­able for all abil­i­ties, from tod­dlers to grand­par­ents, and ev­ery­one in-be­tween.

Jar­rod Hunt from Te Manawa Ora said the aim of the event is to pro­mote an op­por­tu­nity for young peo­ple to en­gage in a pos­i­tive way with their whanau and the wider com­mu­nity.
