Offenders have attacked a man while he slept in his car outside the Te Aroha Library. This happened on Monday and the community has rallied to help Graham Jackson. Mr Jackson grew up in Te Aroha. He is moving between Katikati, where he works, and Te Aroha, where his father is in hospital. He can’t find accommodation so he’s been staying in his car with his dog, Sandy, while he visits his father. Other travellers were also sleeping in a car not far away and heard the commotion. Police are asking for help with any information on the attack. On a related topic, a few months ago we published a story about a pub patron who could not find a chef. He believed part of the reason was because there was no accommodation in Te Aroha. Afterwards, a local called to dispute that comment and said it was ‘‘not the truth’’ and we were supplying readers with ‘‘false [I think he meant fake] news’’. Well, have a read of the story on page 13 and let me know what you think. Accommodation is scarce around the region.
