On Satur­day, Diprose Miller Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako A cricket team hosted Hin­uera at the Mor­rinsville Recre­ation Ground.

Hin­uera cap­tain Steven Smith won the toss and sent Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako into bat on a fresh grass wicket.

Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako lost a few early wick­ets but Bren­dan Rev­ell (44) and Jay­den Van den Heu­val (26) built a solid part­ner­ship for 3rd wicket work­ing hard against the Hin­uera at­tack.

How­ever the re­main­der of the Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako bat­ting or­der showed less re­sis­tance and spin­ner Nathan Lyon (5-25) ripped through the or­der with Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako all out for 97.

Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako started well in the field with open­ers Scott Spence (1-30) and Dar­ryn Howse (1-36) both pick­ing up a wicket a piece in their open­ing overs.

How­ever Hin­uera at­tacked the small to­tal and reached the tar­get with 8 wick­ets to spare.

A dis­ap­point­ing ef­fort from Mor­rinsville-Pi­ako to fin­ish the Hamil­ton-Val­ley com­bined pre­mier com­pe­ti­tion how­ever the play­ers will look to im­prove their per­for­mance next week when the take on the RA Sangha Xl in Paeroa in the open­ing round of the Mike Cot­ter Cup.
