Calf rear­ing sem­i­nar at Wai­hou club rooms


Dairy Women’s Net­work is pair­ing up with one of their part­ners, SealesWinslow, to bring an in­for­ma­tive mod­ule to the East Waikato re­gion.

The Suc­cess­ful Calf Rear­ing mod­ule aims to in­tro­duce the im­por­tance of set­ting a plan to en­sure for a suc­cess­ful up and com­ing sea­son.

Re­gional Leader As­tra-lee Bur­rows said the mod­ule is a great op­por­tu­nity to learn about all as­pects of calf rear­ing.

‘‘We can then im­ple­ment this knowl­edge into our own farm­ing sys­tems to grow healthy, strong stock which starts right from day one - in the calf shed,’’ she said.

Wendy Mor­gan, SealesWinslow’s ru­mi­nant spe­cial­ist, will be pre­sent­ing a num­ber of topics that will look at ex­ist­ing best prac­tice as well as new re­search that has re­cently be pub­lished.

Topics in­clude hous­ing and pen set up and un­der­stand­ing the im­por­tance of colostrum and the calf’s re­quire­ments.

The mod­ule is be­ing held on Wed­nes­day June 6 at the Wai­hou Rugby Club.
