Birthday wishes to Queen pay off

She might have just missed her chance to marry Prince Harry, but it didn’t stop Te Aroha sevenyear-old Neikyla Younger from wishing her favourite monarch a happy birthday.

Neikyla has always been fas- cinated by the Queen and when she learnt that ‘‘Queen’s Birthday’’ weekend was coming up, she wanted to send the Queen a hand-drawn picture and letter to wish her well.

Her mum Michelle thought nothing of it and went to check the letter box one day and she had drawn her a picture and written her a letter.

‘‘She had put it in our letter box thinking it would be sent to her,’’ Michelle said.

‘‘Obviously a seven-year-old doesn’t know how to send a letter, so I took it and sent it off not expecting a reply.’’

But on Saturday a reply from Her Majesty arrived.

‘‘I said to Neikyla there was a letter and she started reading it and was screaming ‘OMG OMG OMG’. She was so stoked and in shock.

‘‘She was buzzing about it all weekend and took the letter to her school Te Aroha Primary School for show and tell.’’
