New Zealand’s ‘‘100% Pure’’ branding has been questioned internationally. Prime Minister John Key was grilled about the branding in relation to the state of our waterways in an interview by BBC current affairs show Hardtalk host Stephen Sackur, while Mr Key was in London after the royal wedding. Comments in a New Zealand newspaper by Dr Mike Joy that New Zealanders were ‘‘delusional about how clean and green we are’’, with half of our lakes and 90 percent of our lowland rivers classified as polluted, were dismissed by Mr Key who said Dr Joy was only one opinion.
