An extra trolley racing event will be held around the time of this year’s Rugby World Cup.

The announcement was made at a thank you night to those involved with the Hibiscus Coast soapbox derby run by the Whangaparaoa Rotary Club.

Certificates were presented to the many people and organisations involved.

These included the top six drivers from Stella Maris, Orewa College and Wainui schools and representatives of the school obtaining the most sponsorship, Wentworth College.

The most impressive team, Red Beach School, was also congratulated at the event.

The Plunket ladies received $ 6000 raised through the derby.

A large crowd at the night was welcomed by club president Sarah Carr and derby director Terry Clarkson who thanked major sponsors, supporters, helpers and Brightside Rd residents.

The club has a fiveyear resource consent to continue the event.

Rotary now holds the New Zealand franchise from the American derby owners.

Extra event: Derby director Terry Clarkson, with placegetters, says another soapbox derby is planned later this year.
