Born again through exercise
Born Again Bodies is a new group in Orewa offering exercise programmes to improve strength, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and mental health at any age. Classes cost $5 each and are held at the Theosophical Centre in Annaliese Place every Tuesday from 11am to 12pm. From their mid-thirties people lose approximately 150 grams of muscle a year. This is called sarcopenia. It means people no longer have the strength to do the things they used to do such as lifting objects from the floor, hopping out of bed in the morning or getting up easily off a chair, sofa or toilet. Exercises with weights strengthen muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments. In fact every cell in your body becomes more active. The outcome is greater bodily health. You can add these ‘‘resistance exercises’’ to your exercises for co-ordination, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness and you will take your body out of reverse and put it into forward gear.
