FRESH FOOD LABELS

-

Fruit and veges may soon have to display their country of origin after the Consumers’ Right to Know Bill passed its first reading on April 12. Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin is pleased with the bill’s progress. She says consumers have a right to know where their food comes from so they can make informed choices. A recent survey by Consumer NZ indicates that the majority are in favour of the bill. If the bill is passed, all packaged and nonpackaged single component foods will be required to display their country of origin. Consumer NZ urges those interested to have their say at the bill’s select committee stage.
