Volunteers make the world go round. National volunteer week has just passed - a dedicated week to recognise and celebrate the contribution of volunteers around New Zealand.
Over the weekend, Puhoi Volunteer Fire Brigade celebrated the long-awaited opening of a brand new fire station. This new station is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers. For the last decade, the service has operated out of a temporary lean-to station. Constructed out of two shipping containers and a roof, the DIY station was home to the fifth busiest rural brigade in the country. During the station opening, the amalgamation of rural and urban fire crews from around the country was also announced, now known as Fire and Emergency NZ. Congratulations to Russell and the team.
