Book auction for a cause
Celebrity book auction helps raise funds.
New Zealand celebrities have signed copies of their favourite children’s books, and donated them to a good cause.
Books signed by Andrew Muligan, Jaquie Brown, How to Dad, Alison Shanks, Joseph Sullivan, Barbara Kendall, Lisa Carrington and many more are up for auction by Auckland-based online toy delivery company Nurture Box.
All the proceeds go to Silverdale charity I Got Your Backpack.
I Got Your Back Pack provides backpacks filled with practical and essential items for women and children escaping domestic abuse. It was started by Anita Hinton of Silverdale and became a registered charity last July.
Hinton, a domestic abuse survivor herself, started buying backpacks and filling them with ‘‘bits and pieces’’ and donated them to her local women’s refuge.
‘‘It was all the things I wanted and my daughter wanted at the time that we weren’t able to get.’’
A friend suggested she start a Facebook page and her idea gained momentum.
I Got Your Back Pack became a registered charity last July and donates its back packs to Women’s Refuge and Shine.
Packs for women include a tooth brush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, food and water, hygiene products and goodies.
Kids packs include a book, food items, a toothbrush and drink bottle, toys and more.
