Warkworth pool to come

Rodney Times - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS - RENEE CLAYTON

Warkworth residents can expect a new training pool within the next few years.

Northern Arena has signed a contract on a block of land adjacent to the north side of the Warkworth Showgrounds and sports field this year.

In its early stages of development, Northern Arena is waiting for the site to be delivered so they can start building.

Northern Arena’s director Matthew Saunders said he expects the site to be delivered during 2019, and hopes to have the complex completed between 2020 and 2021.

‘‘The greater development in the area needs to get underway with roads and services, in particular the Matakana Link Road, then we design, build and open.’’

Mahurangi Community Sport and Recreation coordinator Ruth Mills said since 2009 they have petitioned Auckland Council to provide a community aquatic facility for the area.

‘‘Our preferred option is a pool facility that provides for more equitable access and is in keeping with our goals of getting more people involved in sport and recreational activities.’’

Saunders said the facility will have three pools specifically designed to learn to swim, a teaching hall, a gym, group fitness rooms and the usual gym equipment.

The complex will also have an Allpress Coffee Bar.

The Warkworth Community pool is said to be finished between 2020 and 2021.
