Helensville pub robbed

Sports bar workers escaped unharmed after an aggravated robbery with a gun at an Auckland pub. Police were called to the Kaipara Tavern in the north-west suburb of Helensville on August 27. Waitemata Police Detective Senior Sergeant Andy Murdoch said two men arrived at the tavern in a stolen Silver Subaru station wagon about 11.30am.

‘‘At gunpoint, they have forced the sole staff member to open and empty both the cash register and the safe before they fled the scene with the cash.’’

The stolen vehicle was found a short time later, abandoned on Rimmer Road.

‘‘This was a really terrifying experience for the staff attendant, and he has been completely traumatised by what has happened,’’ he said.

A police spokeswoman had earlier said the offenders had ‘‘demanded cash’’.

The impact these crimes have on victims are really serious and it has to stop, Murdoch said. ‘‘We also ask friends and families of the offenders who will recognise them from this clear CCTV footage to call Police so we can sort this out.’’
