A man in his thir­ties was taken to hos­pi­tal af­ter his ve­hi­cle col­lided with an­other on SH 1. Around 12pm on Oc­to­ber 1 the emer­gency ser­vices were called to an ac­ci­dent near To­talspan Steel Build­ings north of Wark­worth. The Wark­worth Fire Bri­gade, po­lice and am­bu­lance ser­vices ar­rived along with the Auck­land West­pac Res­cue He­li­copter to find two cars hun­dreds of me­tres apart from each other, both writ­ten off. The man suf­fered mul­ti­ple in­juries and was flown to North Shore Hos­pi­tal in a mod­er­ate con­di­tion while the three oc­cu­pants of the other ve­hi­cle were un­harmed. Wark­worth Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade Se­nior Sta­tion Of­fi­cer De­van Flewellyn said the road was closed for 45 min­utes un­til ev­ery­thing was clear.
