A man in his thirties was taken to hospital after his vehicle collided with another on SH 1. Around 12pm on October 1 the emergency services were called to an accident near Totalspan Steel Buildings north of Warkworth. The Warkworth Fire Brigade, police and ambulance services arrived along with the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter to find two cars hundreds of metres apart from each other, both written off. The man suffered multiple injuries and was flown to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition while the three occupants of the other vehicle were unharmed. Warkworth Volunteer Fire Brigade Senior Station Officer Devan Flewellyn said the road was closed for 45 minutes until everything was clear.
