Arkles Bay beachfront bach wins gold
A beachfront bach in north Auckland has been crowned Bookabach’s Hospitality Bach of the Year.
The two bedroom bach in Arkles Bay won gold in this year’s competition with 677 votes and positive feedback.
The new apartment has only been up and running since March and has already had around 30 groups stay in it.
Owner Joanna White said she was honoured to have been recognised already.
The apartment is separated from the main house that Joanna and her husband Grant live in by large double garage.
‘‘It is in a great location for people. People can cross the road and enjoy sea views of Arkles Bay and out to Rangitoto Island and it is close to the shopping mall, cinema, restaurants, cafes, golf courses, ferries and Snow Planet,’’ White said.
During the competition a voter named Deborah said she loved her stay at the White’s bach.
‘‘The apartment is a wellplanned space, beautifully decorated and felt fresh and new. We instantly relaxed on arrival and felt pampered by all the beautiful touches including the lovely soaps and bath linen. Grant and Joanna are lovely people and made us feel welcome and at home,’’ Deborah said.
The Whites were originally living in Point Chevalier when they decided to sell their home and move the bach.
‘‘My father built the bach that we had on the land 26 years ago so we decided to shift it out and build a new home. We wanted to add an apartment out the back to have company, make an income and for friends and family to have a place to stay when they come and visit.
‘‘We have had a lot of great people stay here and every time I try and be as hospitable as possible by giving treats.’’
‘‘We love having the bach and have met some amazing people and families from all over the world.’’
The other categories in the competition were charm, design, setting, family friendly, pet friendly, urban and eco friendly.
The supreme winning bach was in Whangamata, Coromandel. To see visitbachoftheyear.co.nz bookabach.co.nz/baches-andholiday-homes/view/40231 more or
