Coast family on new show

Rodney Times - - OUT & ABOUT - RENEE CLAYTON

Whangapara¯ oa’s Holland family takes family building to the next level.

Tara, 44, Greg, 48, Maia,12 and Louis,14, were one of 16 families chosen to take part in television Three’s brand new XVenture Family Challenge show.

The series sees host Simon Barnett testing families in a range of unique, original and diverse challenges to test their teamwork skills and resistance in the hope to win $25,000.

The Holland family was contacted by Whangapara¯ oa College’s Deputy Principal last year to take part in the challenge which they accepted and went off to film in Russell in October.

‘‘It was such a positive experience, we are now a lot more positive as a family and cope with stress and pressure a lot better,’’ Tara said.

The Hollands were in Russell for around a week and had to complete three challenges a day which were either mental, physical, or both.

Greg said one of the best parts about being on it was meeting the other families and making new friends.

Tara and Maia said they took a lot away from doing the show including the reassurance that you can not change the past and that you have to keep moving forward.

Louis said he learnt how to manage stress and to not worry about what people may think.

The Hollands will appear on XVenture Family Challenge on February 25 at 5:30pm.
