Rotorua Review - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

Kia ora,

First I’d just like to say thanks to the Rotorua community, as it is you that has restored my faith in people.

Last Tuesday Bernie Hornfeck’s home of 50 years was burnt to the ground.

At the time the 89-year-old said he was asleep in the living room when we woke to smoke.

Within a few minutes the whole Lynmore house went up. He lost everything.

Over a week later, and Bernie has been inundated with offers of help from all over the community.

He now has a fully stocked wardrobe and replacement hearing aids.

He also has temporary accommodation at the local marae.

We send our thoughts to Bernie during this time, but I’m so glad to see that the community has rallied to support him.

Keep up the kindness guys- it’s heartening to see.

Nicola Brennan-Tupara
