FROM THE EDITOR
Well first can I open with ‘‘what an election’’!
I don’t know about you, but I was up to all hours on Saturday night awaiting the results.
No other election in my recent memory has seen so many party leaders go and on Saturday night it took another of them, our own Te Ururoa Flavell, co-leader of the Maori party and MPfor Waiariki.
The Waiariki seat was the one to watch the whole night and in the end Tamati Coffey got the numbers for Labour and the Maori party was booted out of parliament.
No matter what your political persuasion, it’s never nice to see a man who is so passionate about his country and his people lose a role that has meant so much to him.
It was with great sadness that I listened to his concession speechbut I would also like to congratulate Tamati Coffey on his new role.
He has always been a strong advocate for Rotorua and I have no doubt he’ll continue to do so now that he’s an MP.
