Owned by the Home of Cycling Charitable Trust, the Avantidrome is both a high performance and community sport facility, centred around the purposebuilt, world-class, indoor velodrome. Its vision is increased community participation, inspired by world-class cycling facilities, programmes and champions. The Avantidrome is also home to a host of tenants including Cycling New Zealand, Paralympics New Zealand, High Performance Sport New Zealand, Triathlon New Zealand, the University ofWaikato, Avanti Bike Shop, and Revolve cafe. High performance facilities include the athlete gym, medical centre and recovery pools. Athletes have access to medical help, sports scientists, psychologists, gym trainers, coaches, and life advisers on a daily basis. The community programmes are also proving a hit, with walking groups, trike riding groups and senior circuit mornings in the gym appealing to a wide cross-section of the community. It’s not only free to view the Avantidrome, chances are you may see one of our top riders in training. And if you have the urge to get on the track yourself, there are $15 Have a Go session. Bike, helmet and instructor are all provided. The Te Awa Cycleway is a purposebuilt scenic river cycle and walking track linking Cambridge to the Avantidrome. Many people love walking the track on the weekend, having a look at the Avantidrome and enjoying a coffee at Revolve Cafe. The Gallagher Bike Skills Park is a free facility for the community to enjoy. Kids can hone their bike skills by negotiating their way around the skills park obstacles, traffic lights, and intersections. The Avantidrome also features a public gym, located on the infield of the velodrome and providing a one-ofa-kind space to do your workout.
