Spring fair fun for fam­i­lies

There will be an un­lim­ited amount of fun in store for fam­i­lies which get be­hind the Ha­mu­rana Play­cen­tre Spring Fair and Grand Auc­tion this week­end.

It’s on this Sun­day, 10am to 2pm, on the Ngongo­taha¯ Do­main (ac­cess Beau­mont Rd and Kokiri St).

The auc­tion will start at 1pm. Ha­mu­rana Play­cen­tre par­ent Kat King says this is the play­cen­tre’s ma­jor fundrais­ing event of the year, with all pro­ceeds go­ing to­wards new learn­ing re­sources for the chil­dren and the day-to-day run­ning of the cen­tre.

She says this will be the 12th year of the fair be­ing part of the Ha­mu­rana, Ka­haroa and Ngongo­taha¯ com­mu­nity.

“The par­ents and wha¯ nau of Ha­mu­rana Play­cen­tre work tire­lessly to make this a suc­cess­ful event for our play­cen­tre and also for the lo­cal com­mu­nity.”

The Spring Fair will in­clude quick-fire raf­fles, food and craft stalls, a golf chal­lenge, games for chil­dren, face paint­ing, a bouncy cas­tle, pony rides, a sausage siz­zle and other forms of en­ter­tain­ment.

Ha­mu­rana Play­cen­tre par­ent Erica Withing­ton says there are some great auc­tion prizes up for grabs, in­clud­ing a Mud­kitchen, a bar­be­cue, an elec­tric fire­place and a he­li­copter ride.

“There’s a real va­ri­ety — some for fam­i­lies, some for cou­ples and use­ful house­hold things.”

Erica says it is an event which brings a lot of the com­mu­nity to­gether.

“Lots of peo­ple are reg­u­lars and al­ways come, so it’s great to have a com­mu­nity event, and it’s great to see the com­mu­nity sup­port­ing us as well. It’s a great day out and there’s lots of cool things for fam­i­lies.”

She says the chil­dren all know it is their Spring Fair.

“It’s a big ex­cit­ing day for the chil­dren as well for sure.”
