Fun and learning at library

Rotorua Weekender - - News - Shauni James

The Rotorua Library has been full of fun, learning and even a good dose of dancing these school holidays.

Activities are being run over the two weeks of school holidays, with the first week featuring a Mystery Bag Challenge, making Picasso masks, learning about animal welfare, making Frieda Kahlo flower crowns and a Lego Town session, and then a Rainbow Dance Party on Wednesday.

It included a ball pit, selfie frames, about 100 balloons and plenty of dancing.

Those attending were also encouraged to dress up in their favourite colours or dress up costumes, with the party hosting the likes of superheroes and Ana and Elsa from Frozen.

Ginny Grant, who was at the Rainbow Dance Party with twins Mila Grant and Kennedy Grant, 5, says they went along because it was a wonderful opportunity to be involved in the library community.

The twins were wearing matching colourful dresses, which were recent birthday presents.

Ginny says the Rainbow Dance Party was the perfect event for their new dresses.

Mila and Kennedy say they loved the bubbles and balloons at the event, as well as how it felt like a big party.

Darmanine Ensor says she and her children, Heaton Ensor, 8, and Mila Ensor, 5, had been going to the library’s activities every day.

“It’s great because the activities have broken up the day and they’ve loved them.

“It’s a great thing the library is doing.”

Heaton says he enjoyed the Mystery Bag Challenge which was held on Monday, and at the Rainbow Dance Party he had fun dancing with a moustache on.

Mila Ensor also enjoyed dancing at the party.

There are plenty more activities this coming week available for families to get stuck into.

The upcoming Lego Town sessions are both booked out, but there is a Lego portraits session, an instrument making session, and a Matisse cut-outs session with no bookings required.

Those who build an instrument out of repurposed materials can then join the Great Te Aka Mauri Band for its debut performance at 11.20am on Wednesday.
