Exhilarating bike racing in the carpark
A new exhilarating race with tight corners and a different course is planned for the Rotorua Bike Festival.
The Carpark Eliminator is being held on Sunday October 28, 2.30pm to 9pm, at Pukuatua St carpark building.
It costs $5 for adults. Organiser Jean-paul Gaston says it’s the first time the event’s been held.
“The bike festival was looking at having some more events in the CBD and I’d seen a video of a Christchurch carpark race. Once I started looking, I found loads of clips on Youtube from races all over the world.” The event involves a short two-at-a-time race from the bottom of the Pukuatua carpark building to the top.
The loser is eliminated.
Jean-paul says this event is good for roadies, mountain bikers or any bike.
“Racing is short with tight corners, and hopefully quick.”
He says that with the right course it may not be the strongest or quickest riders who wins.
“It should be a fun afternoon of racing, and should also be great as a spectator. “To make it a fun afternoon we’ve got music, food carts from the Sunday Market and the Good George combi van serving refreshments.”
He says Good George has provided prizes for the different grades.
