Free support group for mums

Ruapehu Press - - Your Paper, Your Place - FRANCES FERGUSON

Offering support to mothers in Taumarunui for over a year La Leche League is proving to be a valuable asset for the community.

Local mothers have been joining monthly meetings to get help with breastfeeding challenges and to connect with other breastfeeding families.

Information meetings include advice on pregnancy, parenting, nutrition, weaning and a free library of books available for parents after the discussions.

Leader, Sofia Andreen said the focus is on supporting mothers so they can reach their own breastfeeding goals.

‘‘We do not give medical advice but we have a professional advisory board of expert health professionals that we can call on.’’

La Leche League leaders are all mothers that have been through breastfeeding challenges themselves. Andreen stresses that the connection with other breastfeeding mothers is invaluable:

‘‘Hearing other people going through similar challenges as yourself is often empowering.

‘‘With support and up-to-date information, mothers will make their own decisions on what will work best for their family.’’

The group meets 10am-12pm at the Plunket rooms on the first Wednesday of each month. For support between meetings call or message Sofia on 8937885 or 021 1248338.
