Ruapehu Press - - Your Paper, Your Place -

It looks like it is crunch time for the town pool in Taumarunui.

The public really need to decide what happens here and they will get that opportunity during consultation on the Ruapehu District Council’s Long Term Community Plan.

First, the community needs good information. They need to know how badly the pool is damaged. How much it will cost to fix and how much a new pool would cost if the old one is too far gone.

Town pools are notoriously expensive to build and maintain so those numbers are really important for an informed decision. Does the town need a new pool or will the old one suffice? Are people happy to travel out to the high school to use the pool there?

One thing is for certain - pools are right up there on the list of services a council should provide and are hugely beneficial for recreational, health and water safety reasons.
