FROM THE EDITOR
There is a fair bit of activity at the moment in the tourism sector and the conservation estate.
The Department of Conservation is repositioning itself to better align with local iwi and make the most of its resources.
On the front page today we take a look at its plans to shift resources and target those areas where it feels it will make the most impact.
Meanwhile on page 9 we look at the latest Tourism NZ campaign that is tempting Aussies across the ditch with some of the unique offerings in the Central North Island.
And the National i-site Visitor Information Network Conference is being held up at the Chateau next month. That is also bound to increase the level of tourism activity in our part of the world.
Tourism is a vital part of the economy in this region but it does bring its stresses and strains - on roads and emergency services and the environment.
I get the feeling some of our best kept secrets won’t be secret for long.
