Ruapehu Press - - Your Local News -

High speed internet is creeping ever closer to the main towns of the Ruapehu region.

Owhango, Raurimu and the entrance to the Timber Trail are all set to get UFB fibre by 2022 two years after Taumarunui.

Mobile alternatives are providing some pretty good speeds and, in fact, there will be plenty of rural residents who have far better speeds than what is available in town, thanks to the radio repeaters springing up on hills everywhere.

We have stories on this on pages 3 and 10. It does kind of feel like the region is at the bottom of the queue, in this area.

On page 1 today, we look at the difficulties that the emergency department is facing at Taumarunui Hospital.

Staff there are overwhelmed with visitors, and say many of them could easily be going to visit a doctor.

It would be interesting to know what is the root cause of this problem, so if anyone has any thoughts, feel free to drop us a letter to the editor or an email.
